Thought it lived up to that! Three cheers to Maia! what a start to the festival! Must admit that I missed the sheer terror of that first Freddy-Meher scene, though...
That listing was supposed to read "top 5 plays to watch out for this month." and was compiled by moi. but my page maker and desk editor decided she's had enough of my writing and stopped reading wht i had sent abruptely.it must indeed be hard to sit correcting commas all day. do accept my apologies on behalf of her for that misplaced creative outburst.
maia's text holds up well - funny, sad, moving, intelligent, no shmaltzy cop-outs, and crisp. Rajit's direction is impeccable. Sparse, yet the very exciting set design and an absolutely stunning light design fill up the world. Sohrab revealed mature wisdom and tenderness, very nice characterisation. The corpse with the Sohrab mask and the severed hand are stunners. Nadir was excellent in the scene with the father and some scenes with Meher, Shernaz's silences were stunning, and she humanized Freny and gave her soul. I loved Mukul and Neel and loved the way their roles integrated into the narrative. - Shiv

Appears to be a pre-natal world!
